Searching clients

The clients list has two different search boxes, and mixing them up is the number-one cause of "the client doesn't show up":

• The name field, above the table.
• The identity filter (ID card or passport), next to it.

They are not the same and they don't replace each other: typing an ID number into the name field finds nothing, because that field only looks at first and last name.

Searching by name

Type the first name, the last name, or both. The search is deliberately generous:

• Case-insensitive: maria finds María.
• Accent-insensitive: ramirez finds Ramírez, and nunez finds Núñez.
• Order doesn't matter: rodriguez maria finds María José Rodríguez just like maria rodriguez.
• All the words must be there: if you type maria rodriguez, only those with both show up. It is a filter, not a suggestion.

Words shorter than 3 letters are ignored. If you search de la cruz, the platform only searches cruz (dropping de and la) and returns every "Cruz". That is on purpose: a two-letter fragment filters nothing useful and would make the list crawl.

You can type up to 80 characters; only the first 5 words are used.

Searching by identity

The identity filter searches by partial match inside the ID card or passport. You don't need the full document: the last four digits are usually enough.

• There is no minimum length here: you can type a single digit (though it will return a lot of people).
• It searches exactly as it was stored. If you saved the ID with dashes (001-1234567-8) and search without them (0011234567), you won't find it. Search by a fragment: 1234567.
• Accepts up to 32 characters.

Combining both

The two filters add up. If you type perez in the name and 4567 in the identity, only the Pérez whose ID contains 4567 show up. Handy when you have twenty of them.

The same search, on other screens

It is exactly the same engine used by the loans and services lists. Whatever you find here you find there, with the same term. There are not two ways of searching to learn.

I can't find my client

Run through this list before giving up:

1. Did you type the ID into the name field? The most common mistake. Use the identity filter.
2. Did you type a fragment shorter than 3 letters? It is ignored. Type at least three.
3. Did you type too many words? All of them must match. Try the last name alone.
4. Is the ID stored with dashes? Search a fragment instead of the full formatted number.
5. Did you delete them? A deleted client no longer appears in the list.
6. Did you actually register them? Create them. See Registering a client.

When the search returns nothing, the table says so clearly ("no results") and offers to clear the filter in one click. That does not mean you have no clients.

List details

• The list is paginated on the server: changing the filter takes you back to page 1 automatically.
• Columns are not sortable. That is deliberate: only the page you are looking at could be sorted, and sorting 20 out of 500 clients would mislead more than it helps.
